The retina of premature babies is immature and in developing stage. Due to various factors, blood vessels grow in front of the retina and may cause blindness [ Retinopathy of prematurity – ROP] of various degrees in premature babies. All high-risk babies are screened for ROP in our unit and those who require treatment like- laser therapy / Avastin therapy are carried out bedside. further follow-up is examined in high-risk follow-up clinics.
